The university’s Global Legal Clinic has partnered with CaseCraft.AI, an artificial intelligence platform that helps people navigate the small claims courts with AI, without the need for conventional interaction with a lawyer.

Students will work directly with CaseCraft’s platform, offering feedback and helping to refine its tools, which include document generation and case preparation.

The collaboration bridges the gap between academia and real-life legal practice, giving students direct exposure to the challenges claimants face in today’s system.

The university’s Global Legal Clinic opened in February 2024, with law students offering free legal services to university staff, students and the wider public.

Dr Omar Madhloom, the clinic’s director, said: “We are delighted to be working with such an innovative and empowering product, and we are excited to be offering first-hand experience for our students, as well as improving access to justice across England and Wales.”

Jessica Bosworth, who is in her final year studying European Legal Studies LLB at the University of Southampton, added: “I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside the incredible Casecraft.AI team on this project. It has been such an exciting insight into the what the future of the small claims process may be and how artificial intelligence can be integrated into the legal sector and utilised to improve access to justice.”

Ruslan Kosarenko, Co-founder CaseCraft.AI, said: “We are excited to be working with the Southampton University Legal Clinic, who we feel are the perfect match for our objective to improve access to justice across the country.”
