About Making a Claim

A motor insurance claim is a request to your insurer (or the other driver’s insurer) to compensate you for losses arising from an accident, fire, theft, vandalism or even natural disasters. The type of motor policy you hold determines who pays: comprehensive policies allow you to claim from your own insurer, while third‑party policies require you to claim against the at‑fault driver. It is important to weigh up the benefits of claiming because any claim can affect your no‑claims bonus and premium; a claim usually reduces your no‑claims discount by two years and may increase premiums.

Before you decide to claim, check whether the loss exceeds your policy excess. A comprehensive policy covers your car but may still leave you with uninsured losses, such as lost earnings or alternative transport. Collect evidence of all costs, keep receipts and consider whether you can resolve the matter directly with the other party. In cases where the other driver is uninsured or cannot be traced, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) can compensate victims.

Before You File a Claim

Accidents are frightening, but the priority is safety. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) highlights that you must stop after any accident – failure to do so is an offence. If anybody is injured, you should call 999 and move to a safe place. Citizens Advice recommends that you avoid admitting fault at the scene and instead exchange names, contact details, vehicle registration numbers and insurance policy numbers with the other driver. Take photographs of the accident scene, vehicle positions and damage and, if possible, record details of any independent witnesses. If you cannot exchange information at the scene, report the incident to the police within 24 hours.

Contact your insurer as soon as it is safe to do so. Give accurate details of what happened, providing photographs and witness information. Even if you do not intend to make a claim, you should still tell your insurer about the incident; failing to report an accident could invalidate your policy. Make sure you understand your policy limits and any exclusions. Comprehensive policies often cover windscreen damage or theft claims without affecting your no‑claims bonus, but third‑party policies will not pay for repairs to your own vehicle.

Challenges in the Vehicle Repair Industry

Escalating repair costs drive record-high claims figures. In the first quarter of 2025, repair bills reached £2.1 billion, with the ABI noting that shortages in skilled labour and rising parts prices continue to exert pressure on insurers. While these trends remain significant in 2025, they should be monitored closely as new quarterly updates may show changes in repair industry conditions.

How to Make a Claim

CaseCraft.AI is built by legal professionals to make small motor claims simple, fast and cost-effective. The platform is designed for money-only claims up to £10,000 and does not handle personal injury cases because those typically require medical evidence and subjective valuation. Whether you are filing a new claim, continuing an existing one or responding to a third-party claim, CaseCraft.AI guides you through each step.

New Claims

Once you have collected your documents – accident reports, photographs, receipts and witness statements – log into CaseCraft.AI to create a new claim. The AI assistant will walk you through the process:

01

Step 1

Provide your details and upload evidence. CaseCraft.AI will automatically fill out court forms, making sure your names, dates and policy numbers are all correct as you do it.

02

Step 2

Review and submit. Once you have added your evidence, ensure that you have correctly completed and added all of the information into CaseCraft.AI before finalising your claim. You’ll find that CaseCraft.AI securely stores everything in a central dashboard.

03

Step 3

Intelligent alerts will keep you on track. Don’t worry about the due dates for court or other filing dates. You will receive intelligent alerts throughout the claim process, ensuring you aren’t affected by any time-related delays.

Additional Claim Types

Existing Claims

If you’ve filed a claim, you will be able to track the progress and upload further evidence, all via the CaseCraft.AI dashboard. The AI will remind you of deadlines, track any documents that the court may need, and keep things easy for you. For example, where a loss adjuster requests receipts or proof of ownership, you should send these quickly. A loss adjuster wants you to work with them and for you to help them reach a fair conclusion based on your evidence. Be honest and provide evidence. Understand your policy. Remember, if you need to amend your claim or respond to any queries from your insurer, loss adjuster or any other entity, then you must update CaseCraft.AI and the insurer straight away.

Third-Party Claims

If you have third-party only motor insurance and the fault lies with the other driver, you have to pursue a claim against their insurer. You must write to the driver or their insurer and give full details of the accident and their policy number, as well as attach copies of witness statements. You should also inform your own insurer that you are proposing to make a third-party claim.

How CaseCraft.AI Helps

CaseCraft.AI supports third-party claims by:

  • Automating the letters you need to send, giving you time to focus on recovery.
  • Managing responses so you never miss deadlines and protecting your right to fair compensation.
  • Keeping everything in one secure dashboard.

Take Control of Your Claim

Take the stress out of your motor insurance claim. With CaseCraft.AI, you can file, track, and resolve your case with confidence, all for a £15 processing fee plus a 10% success fee, payable only if you win.
